FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Aerik is a researcher and adventurer who's primary interests are in the lifestream and whatever secrets it may hide. He spends most of his time traveling around Eorzea whenever he hears things relating to "aetherial anomalies" in order to investigate and resolve the situations. He hopes that through discovering the secrets of the lifestream, he will be able to recover things about his own past. In his off time, he likes to keep tabs on whatever the Warrior of Light is doing.

PERSONALITY

ENERGETIC

Upon first meeting Aerik, you'd immediately see that he is a walking ball of energy. He talks a mile a minute and there doesn't seem to be a lot going on around in that head of his which has earned him the title of "dimwit" from his mentor. He has a strong love for heroism and often strives to walk the same path of those who he views as heroes. this can be seen in his strong reverence for the Warrior of Light.

KIND

Aerik is a very kind person and wholeheartedly takes the words of even the most shadiest of strangers. More often than not, this results in Aerik getting scammed which is why his uncle deals with most of his finances.

SPIRITUAL

Compared to most people, Aerik has a strong connection to the lifestream. He has a strong dislike for things that threaten the natural order of the lifestream which is what motivates him in his research and solving issues caused by the lifestream or by things intent on harming it. But he does make an exception for those that are voidtouched or voidsent that don't prove to be a threat to the planet even if he is often put off by their presence. He does make mistakes here and there with his wording when referring to them but he is doing his best to improve. He is a devout follower of Nymeia not only as a member of the Weaver's Guild but also as someone who wholeheartedly believes in the concept of fate.

INSECURE

He is constantly suffering from an internal battle about his sense of self and what makes him him. This mainly manifested due to his memory loss. Due to his love for heroics and his connection to the planet, Aerik does not actually fear death which results in his more self-sacrificing attitude. In his off time, he likes to make clothing inspired by those that he looks up to. He is very into fashion but gets embarrassed when other people want to look at his work because of his own insecurities surrounding his own talents and hobbies. But he is still passionate about them, especially when it comes to weaving and dancing.

PAST OBSESSED

Aerik is obsessed with the past to a detrimental degree. He is the kind of person to wish to rewind time to undo a mistake or take back what he once said. But it also is with his own past as well. Despite believing in fate which is often something that is relating to a future scenario, he is often the type to long to return to the past. He is particularly obsessed with his own mysterious past and wishes to uncover just who he once was before he decided to become "Aerik." While he may make for an excellent historian, it is mostly due to many nights bleeding into early mornings spent staying wide awake to read over history books over and over again.

ABILITIES

LIFESTREAM CONNECTION

After having been in the lifestream for an unknown amount of time, the effects still linger. There are positive effects like being able to "speak" to it by seeing certain memories in areas where there are large densities of aether. But there are negative effects which are sensitivity to aether-based spirits like vengeful spirits and memory loss if he overexerts his aether too much.

AETHER

Aerik's body has acted like a container for large amounts of aether for a long time now but it is constantly threatening to spill out and shows in areas like through his hair color and eye color having been changed to match. His hair even glows. Thanks to the efforts of some kind individuals in Thavnair, along with some insight from his uncle, he has some symbols tattooed onto him that helps him contain his aether a little better so he doesn't constantly have to worry about losing his memory should he overexert himself.

AETHERSIGHT/SENSE

Aerik cannot see all that well anymore which is why he has to wear a special pair of glasses that allows him to see the world normally. Without the glasses, the world appears blurry to him and is only able to identify people and things thanks to the unique aetherial signature that they give off. He is also a lot more sensitive to aether, able to sense it quite easily and be influenced by it if its too much for him.

BACKSTORY

Aerik's first memories were being pulled out of the lifestream suffering from aether sickness. The ones responsible for pulling him out was a small group of moogles in urth's gift and a padjal who had sensed his presence in the lifestream. While he was being healed of his aether sickness, Aerik was taken care of by the group of moogles. Without a name, they took to giving him a moogle name which was Kapou Kappu, named after the moogle village's elder. When aerik eventually gained most of his wits, it was discovered that the consequence of his time in the lifestream cost him a lot of his memories. While living in Gridania, Aerik re-learned all that he could about the world from the padjals and the moogles. But it was discovered that he had a strong connection to the lifestream due to his usage of aether. Not wanting his talents to go to waste or out of control, the padjals took to training Aerik into a conjurer. Despite still lacking his memories, his mastery over conjuration despite still being a new student earned him the attention of the elementals. He even showed the potential for being a hearer.

Aerik spent most of his new life training and never left home. But he would often see adventurers pass through and he longed to see the grand world outside of Gridania. He would eventually get his chance when the moogle village was suddenly attacked by voidsent. While he was able to expel them with the help of everyone else, it was pretty obvious that the voidsent were primarily aiming for him. Not only for his aether, but because of orders from someone they only called master. Seeing that he was a danger to everyone else, Aerik decided to leave Gridania for the safety of those he cared about. It was there that he also gave himself a new name. Instead of Kapou Kappu, he became Aerik Yarborough. Nowadays, Aerik spends his time running around Eorzea discovering new sights and also combating voidsent that would cause trouble in the places where he went. His recent venture was in Thavnair where he dealt with the voidsent threat that was causing certain people to get into a zombified state. While he was able to heal them, it cost him a good portion of his eye sight after performing a rather intense aetherial ritual. He has to use a pair of glasses to see a lot clearer than he normally does as, without them, he is only able to see aether clearly while the rest of the world is blurry. He also returned to Gridania to work on his training and research into the lifestream a little more to see if he can find a way to learn about his origins.
